This report looks at the demographic characteristics of the new settlement areas of the South on both state and county levels, examining the economic factors that have led to an increase in Hispanic migration to the area and some of the policy implications for the region. Understanding the interplay of Hispanic population growth and the conditions that attended it helps illuminate a broad process of demographic and economic change in the South and in other new settlement areas as well.
