Two Professionals

The same skills that make you successful on the job and in volunteer roles are the ones that could make you a valuable and coveted leader on nonprofit boards.  You've got what it takes and you know others who do as well!  This session will offer participants knowledge of nonprofit board practices, leadership skills needed to be optimally effective on a board, and organizational expectations of board members.

The nonprofit sector is large and impactful - in Colorado there are over 28,000 nonprofit organizations generating $13.1 billion in revenues annually.  Similarly, the paid workforce of nonprofits represents 5.6 percent of the total revenue generated in Colorado (more than the state's banking and insurance industries). This means that effective change for Colorado communities, which are projected to be comprised of over 50% "minorities" by the year 2049, requires people of color to step up to nonprofit board leadership roles.

These workshops are oriented toward individuals who self-identify as people of color and are looking to achieve personal and professional growth through board service. The Denver Foundation's Nonprofit Inclusiveness Project offers a variety of tools in a variety of forms.  Note: if you do not identify as a person of color, please contact Adrienne Mansanares to learn about our many other inclusiveness opportunities and resources. Adrienne can be reached at amansanares@denverfoundation.org or 303.300.1790.

Participants of the Step Up Your Game board leadership training are strongly encouraged to also attend the FREE Board Access and Empowerment Summit which will be held in September.  This Summit will bring together participants of the leadership training and nonprofit organizations who are seeking to build inclusiveness on their boards and who have attended the inclusiveness learning sessions.  More information will follow!

The Inclusiveness Project's mission is to engage with Metro Denver nonprofit organizations, including funders to become more inclusive of people of color. For more information about these offerings contact Angela Davis at inclusivewkplce@gmail.com.
