Inclusiveness Collaborative: Characteristics of Inclusive Nonprofit Organizations

We would like to partner with organizations working toward inclusiveness. We have defined inclusiveness as having-and actively working toward-a diverse board and staff due to valuing members' unique contributions; developing programs and services based on clients' stated needs and priorities; and creating opportunities to undertake an ongoing personal and professional transformation.

We believe that organizations seeking to become inclusive know that:

  • It is integral to all parts of the organization
  • They will enact policies reflecting this commitment
  • They will provide a safe environment for those who have the courage to challenge current practices
  • They are willing to offer both time and resources
  • They will create a plan with measurable goals and accountability
  • They have an engaged CEO and, ideally, an engaged board of directors
